MY FAVOURITE COMPLAINER - Rodney Dangerfield

  • A girl phoned me the other day and said, "Come on over, there's nobody home." I went over. Nobody was home.
  • If it weren't for pickpockets, I'd have no sex life at all.
  • During sex, my girlfriend always wants to talk to me. Just the other night she called me from a hotel.
  • One day as I came home early from work I saw a guy jogging naked. I said to the guy, "Hey buddy, why are you doing that?" He said, "Because you came home early."
  • Its been a rough day. I got up this morning ... put on a shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle came off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.
  • I was such an ugly kid ... when I played in the sandbox the cat kept covering me up.
  • I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.
  • I was such an ugly baby ... my mother never breast fed me. She told me that she only liked me as a friend.
  • When I was born ... the doctor came out to the waiting room and told my father, "We did everything we could ... but he pulled through."
  • My wife made me join a bridge club. I jump off next Tuesday.
  • I'm so ugly ... I worked in a pet shop and people kept asking how big I'd get.
  • I went to the doctor because I'd swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. My doctor told me to have a few drinks and get some rest.
  • I remember the time I was kidnapped and they sent a piece of my finger to my father. He said he wanted more proof

  1. (Note: this is a carrie over from October Bitches) YES I am repeating myself - but please, please, please Government of Canada - GET THE F*CK BACK TO WORK.. Enough about Duffy.. Days and Days of Parliament and Senate WASTED on this crap. MILLIONS of dollars and still counting.. to chase crooked Senators.. who is really getting robbed here - The taxpayers - how much are we gonna spend on this issue - what about unemployment, social issues, our economy.. do we not have these things to focus on.. not chasing a fat gut for 90K (oh and another 13K for lawyers fees) - SEE even I know more than I should because this is ALL THAT IS ON THE NEWS!!!
Anyone interested in doing the math on how much it costs per day to run the senate?Payroll alone would be sickening.. and then the same for Parliament?

    1. From Robert G, NB - I so agree with ya man. Enough of this friggin crap & any other issues to do with Gov't actually. Lets get the friggin Country / Province under some kind of control. All governments seem to just act like kids. No I am wrong, kids for the most part know better than they way all these people carry on & I gotta say that all the folks that follow this crap every day, on & on & on are nearly as bad as the Governments themselves.

    2. From Paul D, ONT - I agree what a double rip off of the Canadian Tax Payers ! This fat tub of shit is not worth 2 cents more time on a single TV Chanel or radio talk show when will the stupid opposition parties realize the Canadian people are sick and tired if them only asking about this and really ask some questions that people care about like jobs and oh yes the economy ? Tired way if you want to show leadership move on and don't worry the NDP will never wake up to the fact that the rest of us could care less about Duffie and the rest of the pack of Senate thieves they should all be sent packing and the Semite abolished and known as a total farce and a disgrace to all decent hard working tax paying Canadians. The party that will actually abolish the senate had my vote next go round, you silly, dense, pompous, elected clowns !

  3. I am going to do something unspeakable, and probably the first time ever in print - I am going to speak against the natives. Of course it will be interpreted as I being a racist. But it seems the natives have a free pass on any of their activities, as any negative commentary is interpreted as being racist attack by a a redneck yokle. -but this is off topic. There is an uproar now because Premier Alward refuses to meet with the Chief of St Mary's to discuss the shale gas topic. So OF COURSE, the press as well as all of the Chiefs interpret this as a insult to the First Nations Culture - and to quote St. Mary's Chief "set back the government and first nations relationship back 50 years". WHAT??? HOW??? The premier is not interested in meeting a group (ANY GROUP) about the topic of shale gas.. It is not an attack on First Nations, it is not a slur of the culture - it is just a refusal to talk to a special interest group about a topic that the government has already made a stand on. My question is when the government refuses to speak to a WORKERS UNION about a labour dispute - it is publicly seen as simply that a dispute on a topic. NOT an personal attack of the religion, belief, cultures, of the members of the union. SO WHY are we always held hostage when there is a disagreement with first nations on ANY topic, that we are insulting their rituals, traditions, beliefs and rights to land claims. And it is accepted that part of the first nations negotiations is consistently wrought with threats or fear of violence - and we again are held hostage to that. I don't recall ever a bargaining chip for the teachers union, or postal workers, that if they don't get their way in negotiations that there will be violence. Yet we tolerate it, as if we resist - again, we are racists and do not respect the First Nations heritage - what bullshit.

    2. From J.G in New Brunswick - We as Canadians are raised to say Nothing most of the time if it could hurt or offend someone, therefor anyone who speaks out seems "ballsy, outspoken etc" and says what they feel -others think WOA! what they say? Yet Im sure they think it. Our problem is these groups that are minorities or have strong views or are people we are intimated by we say nothing, even though we disagree... there for they gain power and take over... High 5 for the premier not talking to them. If he talked to every group or ever person that thought he should listen to every word they said, he wouldnt be able to do his job. That is what local MLAs etc are for. Check out the link above I have posted. My son is native, so dont even go there on that... I agree, whether he is or isnt... he is equal. He will have his responsibilities as a man, a community member, a father, etc. He will raise his children to be equal citizens, to do what is right, not what is the easy way for a hand out fr the govt for something that never involved him generations ago... he is not going to be part of the ongoing problem thinking he is entitled to something just because he has native blood in his system, he is going to ahve to work like his ancestors did and like we all have to or should to provide for himself and family

  4. Immediately after it was announced that indeed a video exists of May Rob Ford smoking Crack, his numbers improved in public support poles.. What does this mean? Does it mean that voters are drawn more to the common man, that has skeletons in the closet.. but is still a good representative of their voices.. I think so.. BUT, a slippery slope as less than polished elected officials can do a great job even if their halos fell off with questionable personal activities - will this acceptance grow in time that we have truly corrupt officials spending taxpayers dollars.. Howe much will we accept as "just a common guy" acceptance of our leaders - I don't know.. time will tell.

  5. Eric B. New Brunswick: How about this one? The Harper government denying veterans long term benefits by employing a loophole that sees them discharged just shy of their 10 year mark. Discharged by the way because they are 'ineligible to serve overseas' anymore. Why are they ineligible? Because we put them in harms way and they have been permanently injured by IEDs while defending our democracy and freedom. Truth is stranger than fiction. Shame shame shame!

  6. Eric B. New Brunswick: I vote for the New Brunswick electorate. How stupid do we have to be to continue to fall for the same ploy over and over and over again. Wait until next year in New Brunswick when 'we' will once again believe party leaders who say they will reduce taxes, yet increase programs while (get this) reducing the debt. Just wait; it'll happen. It's more predictable than the weather. And then..... we'll all be dumfounded when none of it happens. Dumfounded I tell ya. Dumbfounded and angry enough to vote 'out' that party without due care and attention to the party that we do vote 'in' - who by the way, does the very same thing. I vote for us; the New Brunswick electorate. Thank you for your time. E

  7. http://www.torontosun.com/2013/11/04/students-dont-care-if--white-poppy-offends-vets

Students wearing white poppies because they don't want to celebrate war? wtf do they teach these kids? where have we gone wrong as a society. this reminds me of my last work place when i wanted to have wear a red shirt on Fridays. i sold shirts to the staff to wear, and all funds were used to buy and send a care package to one our co-workers husbands surviving in Afghanistan. well of course two people complained to management that it was terrible we were supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. peoples thinking at times leaves me saddened. as i told the two whiners, i don't exactly support the wars and the things going on in Afghanistan and Iraq either but i do support and respect the things that soldiers do on our behalf everyday for the most part.
the efforts and sacrifices my grandfather made on my country's behalf during WWII will always be remember this time every year when i wear my 'red' poppy proudly.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ah, now for some time on the soapbox.

White poppies. There's a group at Ottawa University (a small group thankfully) that are trying to propagate wearing white poppies in lieu of the traditional red ones. Their reason? White poppies are supposed to make you think about peace for the future. War is bad. This, for me, falls into a category of such trivial statements as "cancer is bad" and "poverty is bad." Well... no shit!

They claim that red poppies honour war, as in warfare. Not only is this a fundamental misunderstanding of what remembrance day is about (which is fairly simple,) its an insult to me as a thankful free Canadian. Remembrance day is about honouring past and present soldiers for what they stand ready to do; go to war at any time for any number of reasons and do as they're told. It's not about reasons for war, its not about the politics, it is simply about recognizing that we as Canadians will never have to be afraid that one day someone will take us away from our families to defend our sovereignty or carry sandbags in disaster zones or apprehend the evildoers of the world. Soldiers spare us from this by signing up to do it themselves. Promoting peace? Who do you think you have to convince that peace is good? Remembrance day is simple; be thankful for those that do the job, not those that tell them to do it. That's why I think that at the very least, we should keep unnecessary (and convoluted, poorly organized and muddled) distractions out of remembrance day.

  9. Heroes - I don't think so.
So the Canadian Military get extra pay when deployed, suffer social issues when return from deployment, suffer from poor living conditions in the PMQ's (Private Married Quarters), and a long line of costs associated with the role that they play training and defending our country. I ask, however, as all of these huge tax payer burdens, above and beyond the salary and benefits that each of our military members earns. WHY are we burned with all of these expenses? When each military member chose a life of the military, I am sure it was disclosed to them at the time of what their jobs would be. They train to put their life in danger, they must be aware that this is not an easy career, both during their career and after they retire. NONE of this is a surprise. They are not drafted, with no choice, They willingly make the educated decision to what being in the military entails. So why as taxpayers do we need to pur money into additional income suppliments when they are overseas - DOING WHAT THEY TRAINED FOR, why is their mental challenges something that we are burdened with financially. We tout them all as heroes making sacrifices for our country, sure they do this, but they are paid very well for doing this, doing their job. Heroes maybe.. Professionals doing what they were training and hired to do.. More appropriate. If one were to put their life in peril as a volunteer - they would be Heroes.

    1. I have a lot to say on this post... My fiancé became a military member because where he is from, most people live off of EI. There are no jobs, and really no chance to get ahead in life. He decided to join so that he could provide a life for the family he wanted to have. Even with an education, how many of those people still do not have work? A lot!!! For some, the military provides a better life. Now as a result of joining the Canadian Forces, he now suffers from PTSD. He went to war, which was not a choice. He did what he was told to do, things he didn't want to do, saw things he never wanted to see, again not his choice. Lots of people join the forces without ever having to go to war, and then some do. He saw his friend get blown up and die, he saw a lot of things that most people never have to dream of. All of which are things he would never want to see but again, it was not his choice. Yes, these were all possibilities of joining the forces, yes he understood that. But its these men who have gone through this that will save your ass if anything were to happen to Canada. You try going out in the field for a month without sleeping in a bed, or seeing your family and then try to talk. Go to war, experience what they experience and then talk. Until you are man enough to serve your country don't talk about things you don't know anything about. Too many people don't understand the seriousness of PTSD and its sad that these men and women don't get the respect and understand that they deserve.

    2. Nice to see you posted this anonymously....coward! How dare you. An officer cadet earns under 19,000 per year. A second lieutenant earns $56000.....I tell you what, I will give you $28,000 and send you into a war zone for 6 months and see how you fare!

I have many friends and family in the military. They join because they WANT to serve their country not because they want to get killed, injured, maimed, or mentally altered. They sure as hell don't join for the money.

If you don't stand behind our military....FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM!

    5. 1) What soldiers sign up for INCLUDES danger pay for overseas deployment. It's in the job description. The extra incentive makes serving overseas very lucrative, as such many soldiers want to, and they can be filtered by the armies standards for who is fit to serve overseas -- This means we have a constant supply of willing soldiers that we pick through and select the best rather than a rabble of heel-draggers sent to piss away an 8 month deployment with live ammunition.

      2) Danger pay is not exclusive to the military. Many jobs offer it for doing dangerous things. Are you suggesting that troops in a combat zone should be paid the same amount as soldiers in garrison? Danger pay is just that; extra pay for extra dangerous circumstances. If you want, you could think of military salaries as compensation for two different jobs: soldier in danger zone and soldier in garrison. That's pretty clearly outlined in the application paperwork. THAT is what they signed up for.

      3) The families at home benefit from the extra income to compensate for the lack of help around the house. Oh and there's a chance than the soldier won't come home, so saving is sort of a big deal too.

      4) There is no draft because there is no shortage of soldiers. If people don't want to join the military because the incentives suck, there would be a draft. The military is a government service and the numbers will be maintained no matter how many people WANT to do it. Heroes sign up for a difficult lifestyle (in garrison or deployed) so there is no draft, so WE don't have to live the difficult lifestyle. Think about it. You and I NEVER have to go to war because there are thousands of men and women will do it for us.

      5) By "mental challenge" I assume you mean mental injury. The human mind has a tremendous ability to imagine, remember and simulate past experiences. I don't care how well you've been trained, there is no program in existence today that can desensitize someone to their friends burning alive inside of an armored vehicle. You'd better believe that even that opinionated mind of yours is vulnerable to what they see. Then you would have to endure sleepless nights, flashbacks, depression, tremors and the inability to take a piss. We have healthcare (which soldiers can't collect) so they have their own military healthcare. Take note that both civilian healthcare and military medical expenses are paid for by taxpayers.

      6) They do volunteer; they voluntarily chose what must be one of the most physically and mentally dangerous jobs in the world for a shitty salary. We send them overseas, we get them back with missing limbs and kick them out of the military. I work with a lot of amputees. Do you know how hard it is for a bilateral transfemoral amputee to get a job? The government does and damned well better help with that with benefits and medical bills. The government is the body that decides to go to war, and it has to account for its decisions. Don't like it? Vote for a government that shirks its international responsibility. No war? No danger pay.

I salute your objectivity. You're right, we should think and question where tax dollars go, however in this case I think our tax dollars are well placed. As a taxpayer, I'm much happier that my tax dollars are helping a military family get through a difficult time than say paying rent for a house that nobody is living in, or a six figure salary for the leader of a reservation that desperately needs that money.

  11. I am a military wife and people have no idea what war can do to a person... Its a choice to join, yes. BUT for a lot of people, they join because there are no jobs, and this is the best way to provide for their families.

  12. So what does it take to be a Hero? Do they have to die before you will respect them?
Here is the definition of a Hero:
A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.
I don’t believe this means you have to be a volunteer to be a hero. The fact that these people choose to be in the Military knowing full well what they are getting takes a lot of courage in my eyes. The fact that they can put themselves in harm’s way for others is very noble.
Yes some reasons for joining is the pay but I know lots of people who join for other reason than just the money. Money is only a factor. No one joins thinking they are going to go overseas and come back with mental issues. No matter how much training you go through you can never fully prepare yourself for what war really is and what you are going to see over there.
It is an unfortunate situation that we have to be over there but until you go over there and see what it is really like you can stop bitching about where your freedom comes from.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

Do these idiots bother me not one bit I spent years overseas so they have the right to hide behind there name

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow... of COURSE they know what they're getting into... that's the whole point. They know, and yet they still serve. If I tell you I'm going to stand here wildly swinging a baseball bat, how likely are you to walk by me? Those who serve still would despite the danger. For that they deserve much more than just pay.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nice that I am not the idiot of the month!. Everyone seems to be missing the point. My point is that everyone as they start looking for a job has to make decisions about their future career, Will I make the money I want, am I willing to make sacrifices of being away from my family if I do this or that. Am I willing to chose a career that is dangerous. Do I want to be a doctor, a janitor, an account, a deep ocean welder, or be in the military etc. EACH career has aspects that you need to take into account the sacrifices you need to make to do that job. It seems that it is such a shock that people join the military are put in harms way as a part of their job. And it is expected that if they do exactly what they are trained to do, and made the decision to do they are touted as heroes and upon their retirement - the public is expected support the after effects of the jobs that THEY chose. Clearly from the comments directed at me, shows that the public seem to feel that our members of the military were forced to be put in harms way and should do nothing but train in the safety of there own bases in Canada. I stand corrected.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think the heroism stems from the informed choice to join the military, not the inevitable danger they are put in. They expect to go to war, and the still join up. That's bravery to me!

  19. TAILGATING - Ok what an innocuous topic to bitch on.. BUT, I would LOVE to hear from someone who admits being a tailgater.. It is a mystery, that no one ever calls themselves one.. but as of late, I have had many occasions, as I drive the speed limit, the car behind me, I cannot even see their headlights. So my question, to anyone who has the guts to admit being one.. WHAT is going on in your mind, what purpose does it have to follow 10 feet behind a car at highway speeds. I hope someone can clear up this lifelong question I have had.

    1. I do this only if the car in front is going 20 under the posted speed limit. I'm hoping it will make them look at their speedometer and realize "Oh shit, I'm on a highway going 50. Oops!" But never, ever in bad weather. Not that that makes it much better.

  20. This is more of an open question that it is a firm comment. The Ontario Provincial Government is considering a bipartisan action to make changes in policy to oust Mayor Rob Ford. This is in conjunction with a outcry from the Press and a percentage of the population to give him the boot. But, am I incorrect in understand that as Mayor, he was doing a reasonably good job, and that in certain cases he gets accolades for putting concerns of his voters above everything. So the issue is not the quality of his work, it is what he does during his personal time, Do we or the Government - both his employers, have the right to dismiss someone from a job they are performing well only for what they are doing on their off work hours? If employers dismissed every employee that had bad personal habits. I think we would have a huge unemployment problem. I bet there are a great number of extremely talented professionals out there that are functioning alcoholics.. we would be down a great number of Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Craftsman. Is it possible that we lost sight of what exactly he is hired to do, and how he performs it, versus his behaviour outside of his office after hours?

    1. I'm curious how much credit he's taken for the work of his incredible staff that he seems to threaten on a constant basis. This fiasco has not been happening "off hours" on his personal time. The man's character is in question, not just his habits.

  21. How they need to treat this is as if he has an illness, which he does and he needs help. They would need to prove that his illness is affecting his judgement to do his job correctly and accurately - they send him out on a sick leave of some type and makes sure he gets the help he needs. I'm sure his work performance must be suffering - he's getting worse! By the time he perhaps is ready to return to work it will be election time and then the people will decide his fate.

i am curious to hear other peoples opinions on this. was this money well spent? looking at it and the price tag i'm sure there are people who will step up and say this person or this group needed that money more. i can see how this looks like a lot of money to spend on one person.

so i will give a very brief opinion that i believe this was an amazing event and i loved seeing the pictures and videos of this young kid running around as batkid and having the day of his life. as a parent i can't imagine the things and times this kid and his family have gone through during his illness. i think it was an amazing event and rather questioning why moneys were spent on this young kid, how about why we waste public moneys and private moneys on other events and expenses, and why those moneys aren't used to help the groups and individuals that need it.
